The current study tested the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Model which assumes that job demands and job resources may evoke two different, albeit related processes: an energetic process and a motivational process. A questionnaire has been administered to 159 nurses to measure job demands (inequity and emotional dissonance), job resources (control and social support), burnout, work engagement, turnover intention and job satisfaction. Results of SEM-analyses supported the validity of the JD-R model and confirmed the existence of both processes. More specifically, emotional exhaustion mediated the effect of job demands on turnover, work engagement mediated the effects of job resources on satisfaction. At the same time job resources are linked to emotional exhaustion. Finally, results suggest important implications for stress evaluation.
