Understanding the reasons that have brought to the disruption of representativeness rules, also helps to understand, today, the causes which undermine the proper functioning of the same rules. This would also help to reflect on the necessity of "taking decisions" so as to allow the development of representativeness rules in an evolutive perspective. The concepts of identity and relationship represent the first subject of research of this work, which refers to Confindustria and to collective bargaining. Firstly, it is necessary to overcome all kind of neo-corporative temptation in the debate on representativeness rules. This means that we must overcome the idea for which the representation of interests - today, still mostly based on a sectoral approach - can accomplish its mission by reproposing exclusively neo-corporative models and approaches both to society and to the economic system. If this approach on representativeness will be overcome, both the quantitative and qualitative dimensions of representativeness will gain a new dignity, with an evaluation to be made case by case, having regard to the single objectives to be achieved. These two dimensions must, in fact, be affirmed not only at individual level, but also taking into account their complementarity.

Keywords: Political representation; Trade Union representation; Representativeness rules; Trade Unions; Industrial relations; Collective bargaining; Neo-corporative temptation.
