The author stimulates a reflection on the importance of the architecture of the vase and on the connection that exists between form and decoration, in the relationship between the intervention of the turner and the subsequent one of the decorator. The theme, recalled by some authors of the past, has often been overlooked in modern exegesis. The bonds that link the decoration to the shape of the individual vases and the artistic reasons established by the two operators are analyzed, in particular for the pharmacy jar.

Keywords: Turner, decorator, pharmacy jar, Sicilian ceramic, Sicilian majolica, apothecary ceramic
