Catania’s Civic Museum holds a large number of Mexican terracotta artefacts, a reflection of a very widespread fashion between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, described in literature and documented in painted still lifes. The fame of these artifacts was waning from the second half of the nineteenth century, so much so that the Sicilian inventories between the end of the century and the following one lose memory of their origin.
