This contribution aims to explore if and how the variable of "disability" affects the assessment of parenting skills and whether there is a prejudice against parents, and in particular mothers, with intellectual, physical and sensory disabilities. If, in fact, there is a minimum requirement of psycho-physical suitability to provide an ade-quate standard of care for children, it cannot be denied that disability is an ele-ment of personal identity, like so many others, and in itself is not a source of pa-rental incapacity, but it must be seen in practice - also in relation to the other variables - whether it is a source of prejudice for the existing child (declaration of adoptability) or for the possible adoptee (assessment of suitability). In order to un-derstand how juvenile judges consider disability in practice, a brief socio-legal analysis of some adoptability judgments of a child whose mother had an intellec-tual disability will be carried out. In addition, the case of "Rosetta", a 55-year-old blind woman and biological mother of two teenage daughters who, before the birth of her daughters, had decided with her husband to start the adoption procedure, will be reported.
