Although research on media is well-established in Italy, there are few studies that contemplate synergies between media producers or authors and researchers and those aimed at assessing the quality of audiovisual and multimedia texts pre-distribution. This paper aims at presenting the results of research testing an online comic strip about food education - Gnam! Il cibo in gioco (loosely Yum Yum, food at play - a pun using both food as a game and the main topic) - directed at lower secondary school students, before its online distribution. This research came out of a specific request by the non-profit organisation producing the programme and was developed through the submission of a specifically prepared questionnaire. The questionnaire was aimed at checking the adequacy and effectiveness of the programme, in order to illustrate possible weaknesses to be amended. The research results basically confirmed the quality of the programme, and even made some suggestions of ways to stimulate formative research, involving the preproduction, production and postproduction stages and dealing with planning and completion of a media text, tightly connected to summative research, dealing with the distribution stage. The formative research also considered entertainment production and is relevance both educationally and culturally, because it is aimed at achieving better text quality, checking adequacy of planning and composition choices compared with predefined goals. Keywords Media Educaton, Nutrition education, non-profit organisations.;
