The changeable fortunes of water in the history of Tuscany Water - Tuscany Landscape This introductory note suggests some considerations about the presence of water in Tuscany’s historical landscape and its variations during the centuries. Phases of wide expansion of water in its different forms - running, stagnant, navigable, thermal, conducted - alternated with others of reduction, as a consequence of human action, in favour of cultivated fields. In the present cultural climate the fortune of water seems to rise again. The landscape planning assigns to it an active role as an essential component and its presence is invoked again for the places from which it has been perseveringly driven out.
