In the Early Modern Europe the construction of the consensus and the cooptation of the local elites in the trans national States take a vital importance in consolidating their stability. The this essays the author analyze the utilisation from the Spanish crown of the knighthood in the Military Order of Santiago to blandish the aristocracy of the State of Milan in the processing of consolidation of the control in an area of strategically importance for the politics of the Spanish monarchy in northern Italy and central Europe. A large process starting from the honours conceding to the olds families of the ancient feudal nobility in the reigns of Philip II and III, until to awarding the aristocrats officers of the army during the wars of Philip IV, and the rise of the "new" families at the end of Spanish rule.
