The quantitative and qualitative assessment of women’s labor gets as difficult as ever when we come up against its counterpoint: unemployment. As demonstrated by studies in statistics history, a preliminary critical reflection on the available quantitative sources becomes crucial when one tries to reconstruct the features of women’s labor. Adopting a gender approach and combining workers history with the history of statistics, the A. sketches out the features and dimensions of women’s unemployment in liberal Italy.
