The article of Mirri very conveniently underlines the strong relationship between the youthful experience of war and post-war civil and political commitment; and because of that the case study of the small group of young lucchesi is undoubtedly stimulating for a wider analysis. In particular, I discuss, in part critically, three main issues of interest: the relief of the "civil" or not armed resistance; the complexity of the transition from fascism to the Republic as both individual and generational social and cultural experience; the role of Communist political culture over the postwar decades.

Keywords: Intellectuals and civil engagement; youth fascists; antifascist resistance; postwar Italy; communist political culture.
