Recent archaeological excavations in contexts of Syracuse have allowed to document a wide byzantine pottery assemblage and to create a seriation of the ceramics used and consumed in Syracuse between the 6th and 9th century. The picture resulting shows a sequence of local and regional cooking ware and traces an original path of the trans-Mediterranean trade, “supply” systems and pottery distribution with evident differences in connection with the role of the city over the course of four centuries (6th-9th Century).
