This article aims to detect the turning points in the life trajectories of three Roma-nian Roma families who have lived in the city of Milan for over ten years and have therefore been the target of political interventions. The analysis leaves room for the interpretative dimension of the subjects and the evaluation they make of the outcomes of their housing careers: a rented apartment, a council house and a shack, considering them part of a complex process determined by a multitude of individual, family, cultural and structural variables. The direct and indirect effects of institutional interventions thus make it possible to frame the complex theme of agency and Roma autonomy by highlighting the interactions between individual strategies and structural constraints.

Keywords: Romanian Rom; housing careers; biographical turning points; local policies; agency.
