The present contribution seeks to provide a signifi cant selection of all historic research and public remembrance in Italy during the recent important centenary celebrations of the Great War. International conference events and progress in the studies of contemporary historians are discussed, and an assessment is given of the scientifi c and documentary contribution provided above all by universities, by the Military Historical offi ces and by the Istituto per la storia del Risorgimento italiano. This essay also considers the activities organized by national institutions.
