The article illustrates the findings of research investigating the vicious cycle of population decline and the reduction of essential services in the Venetian Lagoon, a phenomenon typical of marginal areas. The research is based on the most common analytical criteria for territorial marginality and uses quantitative and qualitative tools. It reveals a unique condition of Venetian marginality, which has been less studied than the effects of overtourism on housing access.
