This volume is a collection of essays on Asian cultural, economic, legal, historical, political and social dimensions written by leading Italian and foreign scholars in honour of one of the most outstanding historian of Asia, Professor Enrica Collotti Pischel.

She has done research on East Asia since the beginning of the '50s, when she was a researcher Ispi, the Milan's Institute of International Politics. She started teaching history of Asia in the University of Turin and Bologna before she was called by the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Milan in 1982, where she directed the Department of International Studies from 1994 to 1999. In the same years Professor Enrica Collotti Pischel was the Italian representative in the Asia Committee of the European Science Foundation. She has written many books about China and East Asia, the most important are: Le origini ideologiche della rivoluzione cinese (Torino, 1958), L'Internationale communiste et les problèmes coloniaux (Paris, 1968), Storia della rivoluzione cinese (Roma, 1971), Storia dell'Asia orientale, 1850-1949 (Roma, 1994) She was before her death editor of the Franco Angeli's collection on East Asia History and Society.
